SLEEP BEAUTIFUL SLEEP

Is it just me? Or is anyone else out there
SERIOUSLY deprived of sleep?
My husband and I both share this problem.
It is amazing to me at our ages that we manage to make it through most days. I mean....We aren't
spring chickens anymore. My husband can qualify for free checking in a few years and I will
have the dreaded "M" word to look forward to.
Menopause.....there I said it!
And between the two of us, we maybe get 8 hours of sleep on a GOOD night.....4 for him.....4 for me. We have different reasons for our sleep
issues though. My problem is almost a year old, sucks on a binky, and wakes me up to swig milk from a baa-baa several times each night! OK....She's not a "PROBLEM" but her inability to sleep through the night for almost a year now......IS!!
My husband on the other hand can't sleep because.........
.LET ME COUNT THE WAYS.......
1. His back aches
2.He started watching t.v. and then couldn't fall asleep
3. He was reading a book too good to put down

4. The neighbors dogs were barking
5. Someone was having a party two houses down from ours
(WE ARE AN ACRE from the house next door)
6. and my personal favorite....HE.....heard the baby cry.

So needless to say when HE wakes up each morning complaining about how TIRED......HE...is....
I just want to scream!!!!!! If I didn't have to wake up with the baby e-v-e-r-y night I would be sleeping like.....a baby! YEAH what a silly phrase that one is.
WHO SAYS BABIES SLEEP SOUNDLY?

I have seen all of the stories in the news about how "MILLIONS of Americans" have trouble sleeping. Although I find it hard to believe that sleeplessness is just an affliction on this continent. I am sure the Britt's and Aussies and everyone else is counting sheep too!
What do people in countries without sheep count? I wonder.
.
AND...YES .....BELIEVE ME.....I know that sleep deprivation is unhealthy over an extended period of time.
The good news is......I think....we may be be turning a new leaf. For the last two nights......
I have been blessed with a full nights sleep!!! The baby F_I_N_A_L_L_Y slept!!!!!
I am a NEW woman! Now I just need to figure out how to get my other baby....my hubby....
to sleep. STAY TUNED!

  1. I haven't had a full nights sleep since my youngest was born...5 years ago! I sometimes feel I am walking in a haze. You would think I could fall asleep easily, but the more tired I am the harder it is for me to fall asleep. So I feel your pain.

  2. So sorry to hear that. Maybe from time to time you guys could take sleeping pills, but the natural ones made from herbs that have no collateral effects...

I had this problem when I worked in strange ours, like one week at days and the other week at afternoons so I had to sleep in different hours and them when I got used to, my shift changed...lol. That was terrible.

    Have a great day!

  3. Oh I can fall asleep so easily, envy huh?
But the problem is I wake up every few hours, like a thief prowling in the dark. Such sleep activity apparently affects our liver function. I had this problem way before perimenopause, thus I could not link the 2.

And I am always yawning in the day. Sad case huh? Bless you, hubby and baby.

  4. My youngest child (now almost 17 years old) did not sleep for the first 18months or so of his life....day or night for more than 1 hour at a time. I was a crazy, mad woman. I still get cranky at the thought.
GOD BLESS YOU! Hang in there!
    Blessings, andrea

  5. Sleep is overrated! Ha! One of the three are always coming in with something: Leg cramps, needs a drink, has to go potty, scared of the dark, hungry. It's crazy.

So glad you got some and I hope it lasts. As for the hubs: put down the book, shut off the t.v. and close the eyes. I can't have the t.v. on either, I will watch it all night.

  7. I thought I was the only one with this problem. Actually when I retire to bed to have a goodnight sleep ,all I do is keep awake and plan the following days' schedule, what to cook for breakfast , lunch & dinner. And finally, when my head starts to nod.. like you say, I have about 4 hours of sleep..Thank you for giving me an award.

  8. Got to you blog in a roundabout fashion and just loved this post! We are lucky in our house to get more than 3-4 hours a night...perhaps we should try to get to bed before midnight...but for a couple of oldies we seem to have heaps to do. Beautiful birds wake us before dawn, screeching and sucking the honey from the beautiful blossoms on the grevilleas my husband planted (just to bring the birds for this very purpose!!!!) Our daughters who live a million miles away(or so it seems here in Australia) with our grandchildren, are also suffering in the intense heat in Victoria...there are also water restrictions in place there so they can't even run the sprinklers for the kids to run thru, and I know both of them would identify with all you said in this post...babies and husbands are the same the world over !
